STATEMENT
I have been making films -8/16mm and video - since 1973. All along, a sound vision of the world fueled my work. I have used every available technology during this period, from simple audio collages and film splicing to digital editing. Each different medium brings along new pathways, new expressive possibilities... My computer-controled orchestrations of multiple sources (Time Horizon installations) and the unique water perspectives in Riverglass were both made possible by using video. New and upcoming technologies herald unprecedented potentials for organic audio-visual composition, but one must remember that what really matters is the inner charge of our work.

Born on 2 February 1952 in Ljubljana. Gained his education in Ljubljana, Algiers and the USA. He studied film and sound at State University of New York / Buffalo (MA, 1980). He lived and worked in New York (1975-1980) and San Francisco (1980-1995). He established a video department at the Exploratorium - Museum of Science and Art in San Francisco. He has lectured film-making at various US universities. He works as a free-lance artist.

Four years in the making, Riverglass is a video in which we perceive the magical underwater world of the Soča river that flows in the Julian Alps, Slovenia: turquoise volumes, flying bubbles, pulsating sun membranes, dancing stones... The artist devised a special tool to capture the river from unique, as yet unseen perspectives. It is a poetic river ballet to the music of natural sounds. Riverglass is the result of the artist's everlasting fascination with the forces of movement in nature that contain universal principles of life and a great potential for a different kind of narrative cinema. Some of these shots form a part of the Secrets of Soča - Time Horizon installation.

Witnessing the primordial battle of fire and water - an explosive antagonism which has shaped and continues to shape our planet. Filmed at Wahaula on Hawaii, the project will result in a video film and a Time Horizon installation.

A Buddhist ritual filmed on Oahu, Hawaii. Candle lanterns are dancing out on the ocean's tide as flickering souls of the living and the dead rejoining the grand cosmos.

This video, produced on the occasion of the Exploratorium's 20th anniversary, portrays the museum's many activities. It is one of the many documentaries produced during the artist's full-time association with the museum (1988-1993).

Water Cycle, produced for the San Francisco Exploratorium, was conceived as a 'pilot' film for a series of educational videos which would treat the major themes in physics as taught in secondary schools. Composed with footage from the artist's films & diaries.

A portrait of the renowned sculptor Richard Serra and the installation of his work Snake Eyes and Box Cars at Oliver Ranch in Sonoma, California. The piece consists of twelve forged steel blocks which 'describe' the topography of a valley.
